International organized transphobia- from Pope to Putin and friends of the USA and Europe

Internationally organized transphobia - from the Pope to Putin and friends of the USA and Europe On this occasion, Vladimir Putin made a remarkable speech In it he addressed the West directly; more precisely: to those people who are said to suffer under the elites there. He assured them of Russian support in a supposedly decolonial struggle for a "multipolar world". And then he talked about rainbow families, non-binary people and gender reassignment surgery as perversions that Russia and its people would resist. He described advances in equal rights for queer people as "Satanism," and invoked an apocalyptic final battle of "holy" Russia against Western elites. Central to the US right's fear-mongering of trans people is their portrayal of their lives and public visibility as part of a "gender ideology" imposed on ordinary Americans by an elite. But the phenomenon is neither new nor limited to Western societies. Many pre-Columbian cultures of North America, like many Asian cultures, have more than two binary social gender roles. Medical research on transgender identity has been going on for over a hundred years. Today there is an overwhelming consensus in the professional world that the perception of one's own gender, just like homosexuality, cannot be »treated away«. In reality, patients are best helped by supporting them as much as possible in living their perceived gender in public. Gender reassignment treatments to treat gender dysphoria (also known as gender incongruity) – the discomfort associated with a mismatch in one’s gender perception and physical characteristics or social attributions based on them – have been taking place since the 1950s, based on decades of earlier pioneering work. For a long time it looked as if the US right could only lose with such cultural defensive struggles against social progress. But in recent years there has been an alarming counter-development in the USA: US conservatives seem to have finally found a social minority that is so small, marginal and poorly understood that they can be relatively successfully and safely stirred up against them. Transgender people, who identify as belonging to a gender that differs from that identified at birth based on biological characteristics, are the new scapegoat of the conservative movement in the United States. A smear campaign is being launched against them, which is not only making their everyday lives more dangerous, but is now also reflected in legislative initiatives at state level that endanger the lives of many people directly. Of course, the pope had to have a say: Francis repeatedly described gender as a dangerous, colonial ideology, most recently in an interview with the Argentine magazine La Nacion. This ideology leads to a egalitarian dystopia, and it should be sharply separated from pastoral care for queer people (in the sense in which Catholic dogma wants to distinguish between condemnation of homosexuality as a practice and empathy for “sinful” homosexual people). In a Christmas address to the College of Cardinals in 2012, he said: "Gender, according to this philosophy, is no longer a natural dictate that man must accept and personally give meaning to, but a social role of which one decides, while society has so far decided about it. The deep untruth of this theory and the anthropological revolution it contains is obvious.” The church appears as a defender of the values threatened by liberalized gender relations and as a protector of families and children from supposed indoctrination. A transgender Democratic representative has been banned from speaking in the Montana state legislature for her criticism of an anti-transgender law. According to a bipartisan vote in parliament on Friday, Zooey Zephyr will not be allowed to speak again until she apologizes for saying Republicans would have "blood on their hands" if they passed a law banning sex reassignment surgery on teenagers. Experts condemn decision The law, which was criticized by the democratic politician and finally passed by the deputies, envisages banning the use of puberty blockers and operative conversions in the conservatively governed US state. The Republicans had recently presented a number of initiatives against transgender people - an issue they discussed at the Cons want to score points with ervative voters. Several conservative-governed US states have passed laws banning gender reassignment surgery among young people. According to a survey by the American Civil Liberties Union published this week by the Washington Post, 29 new laws restricting the rights of transgender people have been passed in 14 US states since January. Experts and Biden's Democrats condemn the approach as anti-transgender and warn of the consequences for those affected, who often struggle with mental health problems.
